SPRING RIVER
by Alana Asha Amram

I can't tell anyone what's on my mind
Blossoming magnolia tree leaves winter far behind
I don't know who you are or why you caught my eye
Standing on the muddy banks spring river waters rise
Day light savings time
I have written wrongs reprise
Spring river waters rise again
Coursing the old ravines
Flood crested 20 feet 30 years ago
Buildings bear the lines, scars left from the storm
Headlights cut the fog I probably shouldn't drive
Shadows of the rain run softly from my eyes
I guess we're due again
It's been such a long time
Mountain snow shed like tears
Dredge up the water line
I can't tell anyone what's on my mind
Blossoming magnolia tree leaves winter far behind
I don't know who you are or why you caught my eye
Standing on the muddy banks spring river waters rise

SHOULD I GO NOW
by Alana Asha Amram

Should I go now
Now that you know
The truth of it all
Should I go now
To the world from which I came
Should I go now
When there are tears in your eyes
Longing is what you'd prefer
Should I go now?
Let our live's remain unchanged
If I could make the sadness disappear
That quivers in your lips
Hide it well as a man thinks he can
No mistaking loneliness
Should I go now
Have I said too much
I want to stay by your side
Should I go now
A man prefers his pride

MOTORBIKE

After the fire my heart was black
The cinders turned to ash
Rained for a long, long time
Left a muddy trail from my foot tracks
The streets are like cocaine
I can't get enough
Run round in circles
Run myself out of luck
Glimmer in my mind
Get on my motorbike and ride
Rolled up the highway memories passed with the wind
Sun shined on my back
Road lines blurred bridges curve
Tall trees welcomed me back
Wide and winding
Got nowhere to go
Mountains call me
Back to my valley home
Glimmer in my mind
Get on my motorbike and ride
North wind will push me on
To the place where I belong

Another World
by Alana Amram

They locked you up
I don't know why
Wait by the phone
For your alibi
Left me with your keys
Heat on in your car
Number scratched on paper
Snow falling like stars
Another world
Another man's problems
Make them own
I never can solve them
They took you away
I can't drive stick
Our smoke settles down in the van
NorEaster hits quick
I stare out the window
How soft the snow falls
A woman in waiting
Around the widow's peak she walks
Another world
Another man's problems
Make them own
I never can solve them

DAUGHTER OF THE SUN
by Alana A Amram

Daughter of the Sun
Son of the Moon
Rest your weary eyes tonight
You'll be dreaming soon
Sweet baby don't you cry
Hear the sound of the sea
The tide will wash the clouds away
Leaving sea shells at your feet
Son of the Moon
Daughter of the Sun
Lay down beside me
Think of all tomorrows fun
All you need is here
A heart that's full and deep
Around you the flowers grow
To shade you in your sleep
The water sparkles bright tonight
Constellations running wild
Your Mom and Dad are by your side
Like the Sun and Moon my child
Daughter of the Sun
Son of the Moon
Rest your weary eyes tonight
You'll be dreaming soon

Train
by Alana A Amram
copyright 2013 SESAC
On the train I hold myself still
Sunlight pours through the glass
Rocking like an old roller coaster
Your eyes find mine at last
On and off the train leaves again
On and off the tracks stay the same
You met him on a saturday
Bought your last bag
Burnt matches and bottle caps
Wednesday found you alone
Rolling underground brakes screech and grind
With one kiss I dreamed you were alive
23 years of winter's cold
Perfects a street hustle
Got locked up for 45 days
Kicking shaking every muscle
I prayed I'd find your killer
I swore I'd shoot him down
Vengeance to save another
Can't remove the shadows from this town
He was not to blame, I get down on my knees
Your life in your own hands, over roses and lilies
Felt it coming a year to the day
The details of your face I can't remember
As I sleep you come to me as
Honey colored light of late september
On and off the train leaves again
On and off the tracks stay the same

PEOPLE LIKE TO TALK
by Alana Asha Amram
copyright 2013 SESAC
Candle lights grow low
Pay respect to those you know
Lilies fresh with morning dew
Ladies dry their eyes
Always hated long goodbyes
Swing cigarettes stare at their shoes
A line of hands to shake
Pride contorts her face
Tears of hate no veil can hide
She tells me people like to talk
I put my best makeup on
The rain today won't wash their lips away
People like to talk
Coats speckled with rain
Night sky starts to look the same
Tombstone could never hold you down
Above the sunken eyes
A buzzard circles by
Wind in the tree tops sways and glides
She tells me people like to talk
I put my best makeup on
The rain today won't wash their lips away
People like to talk
Dig it straight and neat
Your soul no box can keep
Always in the wind and memories
Daylight burns despair
Nighttime you're always there
Sing me that song to fall asleep
Come to me in a dream
I don't know what it means
Fist full of sand and broken glass
She tells me people like to talk
I put my best makeup on
The rain today won't wash their lips away
People like to talk

Tall Oak Tree
by Alana A Amram
copyright 2013 SESAC
Over water I prayed
Never break the vow we made
Tall oak tree
Battered by the sea
O, how the wind rustled me
As I grow I shed
Leaves of gold and red
Tall oak tree
Battered by the sea
O, how the wind rustles me
We were wed
On the highest bluff
Sparrow and hawk
Looked down on us
Driftwood lined the sand so smooth
All the words you'd use to soothe
Tall oak tree
Battered by the sea
O, how the wind rustles me
Sparrow and Hawk
The key and the lock
Water crests grey
As the tide pulls away
